It is a popular vehicle that has been chosen from being a family vehicle to a work truck that is heavy-duty. So if you are interested in investing in it, you need to know the following:
1981 – the introduction of the first generation
It first hit the market in 1981. It is a name inspired by the Ram hood ornament, which was decorated on the vehicle in 1933. The early options were the 150 one half-ton truck, the 250 three quarter ton truck, and 350 one-ton truck.
The consumer can choose an extended club cab, a standard cab, or a crew cab depending on individual needs. The D-series were replaced by the Dodge Rams, which had been introduced in 1972, featuring a few fundamental changes. The wrap-around trail lamps, the headlamps, were rectangles, and the body lines were more square.
1988- The power
The truck owners keep on looking for more power, and it is what they found with the 1988 models. It is the reason why the Dodge had to introduce the V6 fuel injected, providing the owners with up to 25% extra power. The electronic fuel injection also came on the map, on some models, they contained anti-lock brakes.
1985 – the four door crew was removed, and the ram trac came into existence
When the Dodge started to offer the Ram, consumers could also buy a four-door crew that provided access that was very easy to the back row. The model of 1985 saw another change that was important in the Ram-trac, which shifted to the fly transfer case.
1989 – better fuel economy
The Dodge continued to look for ways to improve their trucks which included boosting fuel efficiency. The goal was met by introducing an automatic override transmission, which provided better gas mileage. The model year saw the introduction of the Cummin B engine series, which then led to high sales for the company.
1994 – the third generation
The Dodge in 1984 had to redesign their trucks with an exterior that was fresh in a look that entered the market by storm. Before then, the truck was criticized for having flat designs and a sedan look than of a truck. With the change, the front end was redesigned to resemble a big rig, a grille that was primarily dominated the truck’s front.
It made the Dodge stand out from other trucks offered by Chevy and Ford, and many consumers responded to it. Sales began to proliferate with the change that moved from 78000 trucks sold in 1993 to about 240000, which happened in 1994. In 1995, there was another jump of up to 410,000. In 1996, the figures rose to 480000. But this jump in the sales didn’t last. Figures were able to remain steady at 400000 for several years before declining in 1999.
